1. Owner present
Ask the owner to stay during the groom. They can hold, handle and calm the dog.
2. Regular breaks
To prevent heat stress, plenty of water should be provided and the dog given access to it regularly.
3. Keep the groom as quick as possible
Try to minimise stress to the dog by clipping only important areas. Specially the hygiene area should be kept short to help keep things clean during labour, birth and in the weeks after the puppies have arrived.
4. Avoid using belly straps
These can put pressure on the developing puppies in the dog’s uterus, and so their use should be avoided.
