Heat Stroke in Dogs

A missed walk won’t be fatal to your dog, but heat stroke can be..

Please be cautious and walk your dogs first thing of a morning or of an evening when it is cooler and safer to do so especially with your brachycephallic breeds.

Please do not leave your pet in a car.

Seek veterinary attention if your pet shows signs of the following –

❗️lethargy
❗️vomiting or diarrhoea
❗️heavy panting
❗️dribbling
❗️drowsiness
❗️collapsing
❗️lack of appetite

Temperature guidelines:

☀️ 32+ c – High risk of heat stroke no matter dogs breed.

☀️ 31+ c – Dangerous for all dogs and life threatening for larger breeds and puppies especially brachycephallic breeds (bulldogs,pugs).

☀️ 24-27 c – Be cautious with exercising most dogs, especially those that are large and overweight which will struggle in these temperatures.

☀️ 17-23 c – Even in this temperature range, dogs can get heat stroke if exercised too vigorously or if they have any existing health conditions including breathing difficulties.

☀️ 12-15 c – No chance of heat stroke risk, so you can enjoy your dog walks. 🐾
